Academics Location
The Universidad Latina - San Pedro, one of the primary campuses of the Universidad Latina de Costa Rica, is one of the largest and most well-respected private universities in the region. The "U" is located in the trendy San Pedro neighborhood of San José near many other institutions of higher learning. ISA also works with another Universidad Latina campus located in the neighboring city of Heredia. Founded in 1985, the Universidad Latina - Heredia, formerly known as the UICR, is now considered to be one of the most prestigious universities in Costa Rica. The Spanish Language, Electives in English and Courses with Costa Ricans proram is designed for students at the intermediate and advanced language levels. At the Universidad Latina - Heredia students will take a combination of Intensive Spanish Language courses and Electives in English. Advanced and superior level students will also be able to take courses with Costa Ricans in a variety of interesting subject areas. These areas include but are not limited to Architecture, Psychology, Engineering, Hotel Management and Business Administration. Advanced and superior students may also opt to take Spanish-language courses and/or electives should scheduling permit. Courses are taken with local and international students. Students are placed into a language level according to the number of semesters/quarters of college-level Spanish they have previously taken. Heredia is the capital city of the Heredia Province, one of the most beautiful provinces of Costa Rica. Nestled in the foothills of the dormant Barva Volcano, Heredia is surrounded by lush green hills dotted with coffee plantations, tropical forests, and national parks. Less than 7 miles from San José, students also have easy access to all the city has to offer. ISA students in Heredia enjoy many of the advantages of a big city, including excellent cafés, patisseries, ice cream parlors, vegetarian and health food, and several options for nightlife, while also retaining the more relaxed pace of a smaller city. Museums, theater, live music, diverse cuisine, and exciting nightlife are readily available in San José, a vibrant and entertaining Latin American capital.
Student Life
ISA San Jose homestays allow students to experience aspects of Costa Rican or "tico" lifestyle that are inaccessible to the average visitor. All housing is located in middle to upper class neighborhoods and offers glimpses of everyday life with easy access to your university and to city amenities. The experience of living in another culture will be both educational and rewarding. Homestays include breakfast and dinner every day (except for excursion days) and laundry service once a week. In your homestay you will have your own bedroom, although there may be another ISA student living in the same homestay.
