Academics Location
At the IES Abroad Milan Music program, students with beginning, intermediate or advanced Italian language skills will find a program with a full range of opportunities for instrumentalists, vocalists, composers, and performance majors, in partnership with both the Civica Scuola di Musica and the Milano Classica Chamber Orchestra.

The program offers a full range of high-level music options in vocal performance, instrumental performance, music theory and composition, as well as music history. In addition to other coursework, Music students typically take one to three Music courses each term, combining private lessons with Scuola Civica di Musica instructors, and theory courses at the Scuola Civica and IES Abroad. The IES Abroad Milan Director is a noted composer and music scholar who works personally with students to tailor a program that meets their individual musical needs and interests.
Milan is world-renowned as the European capital of fashion, design, architecture, publishing, modern art, and music. Once a capital of the Roman Empire, today the city of Milan is Italy's lively center of business, banking, and finance. In Piazza Duomo, the architecture of past centuries blends with the neon lights of a modern metropolis. It is the city where Leonardo da Vinci painted his masterpiece The Last Supper and invented its canal system, the city where Verdi and Puccini produced their operas still performed today at La Scala Opera House, and the city where the Futurist Movement redefined the traditional concept of art.
Student Life
The IES Abroad Milan Program offers two housing options: apartments or Collegio di Milano. Located throughout the city, furnished apartments typically house two to seven students. Apartments are single-sex, and two students generally share a bedroom. Some IES Abroad students are housed with an Italian roommate who is either a college student or young working professional. Meals are not included, so you typically prepare your own breakfast and dinner and eat lunch at the Università Cattolica's inexpensive cafeteria. Located on main public transportation routes near IES Abroad, the apartments offer washing machines and wireless Internet access, and other amenities. Homestay requests may be accommodated according to availability. Collegio di Milano is a residence for Italian and international honors students. Space is limited, and students are chosen by the Collegio based on academic criteria. Due to the many amenities, this option carries an additional fee.
