Founded in 1966, the Universidad del Norte is one of the top universities in Colombia composed of eight schools, including, Engineering, Administrative Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Legal Sciences, and General Science. This program allows students at all language levels the opportunity to take Spanish-language courses and a variety of courses with locals instructed in English. In addition to that, students who place into the advanced Spanish-language level have the opportunity to enroll in courses with locals instructed in Spanish and a variety of disciplines.

Courses are available in a wide array of disciplines in both English and Spanish. Courses in English are primarily related to Business, Economics, Marketing and Culture. Courses in Spanish are available in fields such as engineering, mathematics, science, art, literature, business, economics, etc. Students in this program also have the option of participating in service learning (Univoluntarios) or completing a research project.
Barranquilla is the fourth largest city in the country and is located along the northern Caribbean coast of Colombia. The city is known as the Golden Gate to Colombia and is a fun loving, but hardworking, cosmopolitan port city. Barranquilla is also well-known for its festive spring Carnaval celebrations and this unique rhythm and pulse fills Barranquilla year round.

The city is located 1.5 hours away from both the well-preserved colonial city of Cartagena and also the beautiful beaches of Santa Marta. The most popular national park in the country, Tayrona National Park is located just east of Santa Marta. Students will visit all of these locations on their included ISA excursions.
Student Life
Housing in Barranquilla allows students a truly enjoyable and immersive experience living in a Colombian home with a local family. All housing is located in middle to upper class neighborhoods and offers glimpses of everyday life with easy access to your university and to city amenities. Homestays include breakfast, lunch and dinner every day (except for excursion days) and laundry service once a week. In your homestay you may share a bedroom with another ISA student. Every family has been carefully selected by ISA's resident staff in order to ensure a comfortable, enjoyable and immersive living situation. Students may opt to secure housing independently.
