Academics Location
FUBiS is an intensive, academic program through which students can earn credits that may be counted towards their degrees at their home institutions. FUBiS sessions run for 3 to 6 weeks and takes place  in the summer .

FUBiS offers intensive and semi-intensive German language classes at up to five different proficiency levels. In addition FUBiS offers subject classes on various class topics. Most classes are held in English by distinguished German and international faculty.

Program Structure

The FUBiS program offers students many choices:
  • Participation in either one semi-intensive German class or in one subject class.
  • Intensive German language classes. These classes meet every weekday and allow students to focus on and thus considerably improve their German skills.
  • Combination of language and subject classes (term II/III). This allows students to improve their language skills as well as further their knowledge of a subject matter.
  • Combination of two subject classes (term II/III) which may count toward a major or minor at the home institution.
  •  A “GermanPLUS” module is available for students at the Advanced German language level.
  • The content courses cover topics from a variety of disciplines, ranging from political science, history, philosophy, and sociology to music history, architecture, film studies, marketing/management, environmental studies, sociology, and art history.
  •  New courses starting in 2017: “Green Business: German and European Sustainable Entrepreneurship”,  “Heritage of the Reformation in Germany and Europe”, “Migration: Dynamics and Controversies in Europe and Berlin”

  • The very reasonably priced program has hosted participants from a wide range of mostly U.S. colleges and universities, featuring almost 50 formal institutional partnerships. Student feedback has been very positive.
  • Every semester features a week-long off-site excursion (in the case of Fall 2017, the participant group will be divided in three and will travel to Netherlands/Belgium, Dresden/Prague, and Krakow/Warsaw, respectively), as well as local field-trips and cultural events.
  •  Participants are housed in homestays or single-occupancy apartments, but may also opt out of these choices if they set up their own housing sufficiently in advance of the program.

Berlin is a city of contrast and fusion: East meets West, history meets future, art meets underground. As a European center of politics, culture, and art, countless people are attracted to Berlin’s unique cultural vibrancy, sizzling creativity and raw charm.
Residents and visitors alike are fascinated by the traces of an eventful past that can be encountered almost everywhere in the city. Berlin offers unrivalled educational, intellectual, cultural, and recreational opportunities. Enjoy Berlin’s renowned museums, its monuments and memorials, its concert halls and opera houses, its theatres, its pubs and clubs.

The university campus is located in a charming and mostly residential section of former "West-Berlin". Yet – thanks to Berlin’s superb public transportation network – it is within easy reach of the city's downtown areas
